Salmon Leather – 948L – Glossy Finish

8.75

The salmon leather is thin, flexible and very strong. The texture of the salmon leather is smooth and refined, while the distinguishing feature of salmon leather is a narrow line down the middle of the skin. The salmon leather is perfect for leather goods and clothing.

Salmon leather takes colour well so the hues are bright, even when the range of colours is broad and subtle.

The fish leather produced at Atlantic Leather is environmentally friendly in two different ways: it is a by-product of the fishing industry, utilising raw material that would not otherwise be used; and the production process makes use of renewable hydro and geothermal energy.

Detailed information

  • Tear strength: 90 Newtons
  • Heat resistance:
    Normal: 90 – 100°
    NAC: 60° C
  • Two different color bases: Two different processing methods- normal and NAC- produce two very different color bases – the color base is a crucial factor in the dyeing process. In addition to these two color bases, we offer both washable salmon leather and vegetable tanned salmon leather, for description on each method scroll down.
  • Normal (Solid color effect, without contrasts). The natural grey base color is removed, and this enables us to achieve bright colors, even pure white. In this case the colour of the salmon leather is solid, without its natural two-tone effect of back and belly, and the scale pattern is less noticeable. This is the method we use most for salmon leather, and so we call it “normal.”
  • NAC (natural contrast): Through this method, we preserve the natural look of salmon leather which is always two-tone, with a dark back and pale belly. The grey base tone remains, and the scaly texture is more noticeable, especially through the darker parts on the back. For NAC salmon leather, the range of colours is more limited, and the palette is less bright. Pure white, for instance, is not possible.

  • When working with undyed NAC (product code 910) allowance must be made for seasonal color variations: the salmon is naturally darker in winter than in summer. When NAC leather is dyed this color difference is largely eliminated.
  • Colour: “Normal” salmon leather offers a considerably larger range of colours than our other fish leathers, especially in brighter shades. For NAC salmon leather the colour range is more limited.
  • Texture: Salmon leather offers two main textures: with open scales – a rougher texture – or with closed scales, which is more refined.
  • Finishes: Both textures (open or closed scales) offer a wide range of different finishes. Atlantic Leather can now offer nearly fifty different finishes.
  • Origin: Salmon lives wild in the North Atlantic ocean, and returns to Icelandic rivers to breed. Salmon for human consumption is also farmed in sea pens off Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Norway and elsewhere. All the skin of salmon used by Atlantic Leather is sourced from salmon farms in the Nordic countries.
